There is hardly a more recognizable house in Gainesville than The Butterfly Roof House, designed in 1962 by architect Jack Clark. The residence, a mid-century modern gem, was in dire need of an interior design story that reflected not only the architectural significance of the home, but the vibrancy and playfulness of the young realtor/business owner who purchased it as a primary residence. The client’s directive was “Palm Springs, CA hotel vibes,” a jumping off point that gave Chinotto House room to play with color, pattern, and texture in a bold way: like the Gio Ponti-inspired yellow diagonal striped ceiling mural, checkerboard patterned terrazzo tiles and pink tiled reflecting pools in the entry and mod clover shaped chairs by Ron Arad for Driade by the pool.
“I wanted everything to be a nod to mid-century design yet simultaneously untraditional. My main goal was to make the home feel like a boutique hotel. Bold, yet cozy, and inspirational. We stayed extremely in line with the original mood board.”
Jonathan, Homeowner
