The 1970’s aesthetic is alive and well in Gainesville, and this architect-designed home in Gainesville Country Club is no exception. The home, with a dated kitchen that didn’t match the special architectural elements seen elsewhere, was dysfunctional for a growing, young family. Chinotto House gave them more space by sealing off an opening to another room, giving them a long, continuous wall for the custom wood cabinetry. Designing around a short ceiling, we went sky high with the deep green brick tile backsplash and gave the family an oversized island for gathering. With an eye for details that are not only beautiful but functional, we were able to carve out two niches flanking the pantry that hide kitchen-top appliances and microwave, and also created a breakfast nook with a pony wall and wood slats to hide an unsightly hallway and air vent.
