After nearly twenty years of raising two awesome kids in a cramped, outdated kitchen, our Dunedin clients were eager for their cherished Craftsman home to finally meet their family's needs. Chinotto House’s first step was to completely reconfigure the layout, effectively doubling the kitchen footprint and opening up sightlines to a new picture window framing the lush, lovingly tended backyard and flooding the space with natural light.

To honor the bungalow’s Arts and Crafts elements while infusing it with the family's vibrant spirit, we drew inspiration from their proximity to the Gulf Coast and the couple's shared past as indie rockers in Seattle. Their collection of concert posters served as inspiration for the punchy color palette and eclectic design choices.

We chose minimalist flat-front wood-tone upper cabinets paired with ocean-blue lower cabinets and sleek black hardware. The new layout incorporates ample cabinetry to conceal well-used countertop appliances and accessories—out of sight but easily accessible. Glossy terracotta relief tiles define the backsplash, while a custom copper light fixture anchors the island, which serves as the kitchen’s centerpiece and the heart of their home. Fresh concrete-look quartz countertops contrast with a custom terrazzo counter that drops down to form a desk, providing a spot for recipe planning and family administrative tasks.

A small hallway was created off the kitchen, leading to a laundry room and guest bathroom, and a spacious walk-in pantry was carved out for additional storage. Despite its size, the guest bathroom is striking, clad floor-to-ceiling in vibrant turquoise tiles that evoke the nearby ocean.
