LOCATION

Newnans Lake, Gainesville, FL

Situated upon 1.7 acres on Newnans Lake, The Haynes Residence was designed and built by renowned architect Harry Merritt and features many of his design trademarks including huge expanses of glass, Ocala Block construction, breeze-enhancing clerestory windows, custom wood built-ins and window casings, and a sunken living room. The home was in complete disrepair when we got ahold of it and required a careful restoration to bring back all the things that made the architecture so special. We rebuilt a good part of the exterior, updated all the internal systems, refinished the terrazzo floors and brought our own design eye to the updates including new Kelly Wearstler and Herman Miller lighting, Farrow & Ball paint, full kitchen and bathroom remodels and graphic wallpaper. An outdoor deck in the courtyard was also added during the restoration, offering beautiful views of the 400+ year old live oak in the middle of the home. Sliding glass doors on the sides open out to the deck offering unique indoor/outdoor entertaining.

Because this home is such a prime and well-preserved example of Merritt’s philosophy and style, its blueprints were moved to the University Archives for research and preservation. The Haynes Residence is already receiving notoriety as the subject of a dissertation.
